Resources for Choosing a Celebrity and Doing Research on That Celebrity

If you're still looking for a celebrity, try these sites.  Some of them are also great at providing information once you've selected your person.

More Resources for Doing Research on That Celebrity

Once you have selected your celebrity, you will need to begin finding websites. Here are a few resources you might use as you look for good sites.

  • Check for your celebrity on especially useful databases found through our state online library at   http://pioneer.uen.org
    Login Name: pioneer
    Password: search
  • Once you are in Pioneer, go to Sirs Discoverer (a database especially for students), and search for your celebrity.
Search Engines and Databases
> Please note that Google is not a website. It is a search engine to find websites. You can not use Google (or other search engines or databases) as a source for your projects.
Because Wikipedia can be edited by anyone, make sure you carefully check any facts you find there.  Of course, your other sources may also be inaccurate.  That is one of the reasons we use several sources.

Source Requirements:
An individual student will need to find at least three sources.
Two students working together will use five or more sources.

For each source, you will fill out a website evaluation.
Make sure you have the complete URL for each source/site.  The easiest way to save URLs is to create a document (with Word) on your thumb drive, copy the URLs and save them to that document.   You could also email them to yourself.

You will cite your sources (provide information about the sources) in your presentation.
Go to the tab on this blog titled bibme for directions.

Here are some sample citations.  I made these by entering the URLs for our own reading class blogs, and the URL for a site that gives information about a celebrity I'd like to learn more of.

Dorsey, Claudia E. Caveman Reading. 09 Oct. 2010. Web. 09 Oct. 2010. <http://cavereading.blogspot.com/>.

Dorsey, Claudia E. A.F. Celebrity WebQuest. 09 Oct. 2010. Web. 09 Oct. 2010. <http://afcelebritywebquest.blogspot.com/>.

And here's one for a site with information about Elie Wiesel, who wrote the book Night about his experiences as a young Jewish boy in a Nazi concentration camp:

Price, Angel. "Elie Wiesel Bio." American Studies @ The University of Virginia. University of Virginia, 3 Oct. 1997. Web. 09 Oct. 2010. <http://xroads.virginia.edu/~cap/holo/eliebio.htm>.

Citations are easy to put together when you use easybib!
