Website Evaluations

As you conduct your research, you will need to fill out a Website Evaluation Form R3.doc
for each of the websites you use. You will need to fill out at least 3 evaluations--1 with your partner (Wikipedia), and 2 more on other sites of your choice. (Wikipedia Example--coming soon, Official Page Example). You may fill out one additional website evaluation for extra credit if you choose. These will be worth 10 points each and will be divided into 3 sections as follows:
  1. Website evaluation (5 points). For this section, you will need to answer a series of questions about your site to determine how reliable it is. These questions include the following:
    • Is this a primary or secondary source?
    • Is this your celebrity's official website?
    • Organization behind the website:
    • Why did this organization host this website?
    • What is the domain (.com, .net, .org, .edu)?
    • Who is the author of the information?
    • Is this author qualified to write about this topic?
    • Can you tell where the author got his/her information (references)?
    • Can people edit this site?
    • What kind of ads are attached to the site?
    • When was the last time this site was updated (year alone is okay)?
    • Are there any grammar/spelling mistakes?
Is the overall look of the site professional, attractive, and easy to read?
    • Based on the above questions, how reliable is this site? (very reliable, mostly reliable, somewhat reliable, questionable, not reliable)
  2. Notes (5 points). In this section you will take notes on your celebrity. I have provided five categories. You will need to fill in at least 15 bullets of information from your site. While it would be great for you to have multiple bullets for each category, some sites are better than others, so it may be difficult to fill all of the categories (see Official Page Example). The categories are as follows:
    • Life before fame (childhood, parents, education)
    • How your celebrity became famous
    • Major Accomplishments (movies, hit songs, albums, awards, stats)
    • Personal Life (family, relationships, hobbies, gossip)
    • Other Information (fan club, tour dates, news, charities, money, site features)
  3. Citation (5 points). Last, you will need to use Easybib.com to create a citation for a bibliography. Here are some directions for using the website:
    1. Begin by clicking on the bluish-grey rectangle to select a source.
    2. Under Most Popular click Web Site.
    3. Copy your URL and paste it in the web address box.
    4. Click Autocite.
    5. Enter any additional information the program may have missed (author, published date) , and check to make sure the titles are correct.
    6. Click Create Citation.
    7. Copy the citation in the blue box and paste it on your website evaluation form or a document saved to your thumb drive. Easybib will also create a document for you.
